Mumuration – The Dance of Thousands of Starlings – A Wonder of Nature

Nov. 2nd 2012 6:06 PM

No one knows why they do it. Yet each fall, thousands of starlings dance in the twilight above England and Scotland. The birds gather in shape-shifting flocks called murmurations, having migrated in the millions from Russia and Scandinavia to escape winter’s frigid bite. Scientists aren’t sure how they do it.

The murmurations are manifestations of swarm intelligence, which in different contexts is practiced by schools of fish, swarms of bees and colonies of ants. Even complex algorithmic models haven’t yet explained the starlings’ aerobatics, which rely on the tiny birds’ quicksilver reaction time of under 100 milliseconds to avoid aerial collisions  in the giant flock.

This short video was captured by two young women out in their canoe one day. It’s extraordinary. Enjoy!

Mother’s Day Humor… and a Very Patient Cat

May. 11th 2012 11:46 AM

Well folks, this story is not the usual type that I post, but it was just too funny not to pass along when I received it in an email from a friend. Hope it makes you laugh… and Happy Mother’s Day!

(Author unknown)

We had this great 10 year old cat named Jack who just recently died. Jack was a great cat and the kids would carry him around and sit on him and nothing ever bothered him. He used to hang out and nap all day long on this mat in our bathroom. We have 3 kids and at the time of this story they were 4 years old, 3 years old and 1 year old. The middle one is Eli. Eli really loves chapstick. LOVES it. He kept asking to use my chapstick and then losing it. So finally one day I showed him where in the bathroom I keep my chapstick and how he could use it whenever he wanted to but he needed to put it right back in the drawer when he was done.

Last year on Mother’s Day, we were having the typical rush around and try to get ready for

Be Yourself; Everyone Else is Already Taken

Dec. 9th 2011 4:31 PM

Coco Bear

Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.” – Oscar Wilde

I love that quote. It’s such an important reminder to be ourselves. Sounds silly in some ways. I mean, who else should we be but ourselves? Yet, at some point or another, chances are we’ve all behaved in a way that was not authentic to our True Self.

There isn’t anyone else on earth quite like you. Isn’t that extraordinary! You bring something special to the world that no one else can in quite the way that you do. How wonderful! Your beauty, unique perspective, joy, insight, humor, silliness, etc…. It is all a gift. You are a gift.

So today, love yourself exactly the way you are. You’re awesome! And share the joy. Remind others that they are awesome too!

Mitch

Here’s a sweet one minute video from the folks at Little Pearls, tiny films that open hearts and minds.

I love the last line: “When your heart is broken, let it break open…. to even more love.”

Enjoy!
